What is Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage?

Manual Lymphatic Drainage massage is a very gentle therapy that can help to reduce the swelling associated with lymphoedema and lipoedema, it boosts the health of the immune system, detoxifies and promotes relaxation, and increased energy.

I use a combination of techniques with this therapy including compression bandaging and essential oils that promote detoxification and clearance of the lymphatic system. Self-treatment is very helpful in maintaining a healthy lymphatic system and this is something I explain and demonstrate in our initial 90min appointment and encourage all my clients to do for themselves between our sessions.

What is Lymphoedema?

Lymphoedema is swelling in parts of the body and occurs when the lymphatic system isn’t working properly - the lymphatic vessels become blocked or damaged and aren’t able to properly drain the excess fluid that builds up in the fatty layer under the skin. It is often a result of injury, radiation therapy, or the removal of lymph nodes following cancer treatments.

Main Benefits of MLD

  • Improved immune system health
  • Detoxification
  • Relaxation
